WP1000 - Management

 

· The goal of this workpackage is to co-ordinate and to manage the overall project activities.

 

WP2000 - Promotion and dissemination

 

Objectives

The goal of the dissemination phase is to interest a higher number of NGO's in the use of web-mapping and geo-information techniques. An associated goal is to rise their awareness to these techniques.

Description

The dissemination tools will consist in:

  • The issuing of a dissemination plan;
  • The support to the GMES workshops in terms of organisation and animation;·
  • A project presentation in electronic and paper form;·
  • The issuing of high-level publications related to the project objectives and results;
  • The development of a special web site to the attention of scientists, developers, industries, professionals, end-users and the public. It will include electronic on-line forums to ensure constant dissemination between the workshops.

Four GMES workshops will be organised in order to confront the results with a larger panel of users (NGO's and international institutions) as well as from Switzerland. The specifics workshops should taken different forms and aims : the dissemination of the project results will be supported during the GMES workshops by some technical examples of the key research teams and companies. A synthesis of the results will be developed into specific media supports. We want to upgrade gradually the support of interactive web tools, CD and specialised advertise in NGO's media. High-level publications will also be produced.

 

WP3000 - Users survey and requirements

 

Objectives

  • To assess the present use of the state-of-the-art geo-information and web-mapping techniques by the user’s network (MSF-B, ICBL, ECHO)
  • To define the users network needs for geo-information collection, repatriation and dissemination
  • To assess the users network requirements for the application of the geo-information and web-mapping techniques·
  • To identify the users community (external to the users network) and to assess its extension
  • To define their needs and requirements as for the users newtork

Description

  • Questionnaire creation for definition and assessment of needs, requirements and present practice.
  • Detailed interviews and teleconferences.
  • We will establish a list of the users community external to the users network; Dissemination of the questionnaire in the users community; telephonic follow-up; 30% of expected answer to the questionnaire in the identified potential community.
 

WP4000 - Technical survey and analysis

 

Objectives

  • To evaluate the potential use of web-mapping interoperable techniques available for geographical information sharing and mutiple data sources combination.·
  • To evaluate the field GIS techniques available for information collection during field operations.·
  • To assess the use of telecommunication techniques for geographical information transmission.
  • To identify the major players (research teams, companies…) in these state-of-the-art techniques.

Description

  • Inventory of the IT tools;·
  • Identification of main technical approaches/philosophies to respond the needs of humanitarian organisations;
  • Identify the key players (research projects and teams) and their actual state of development and principal futur research axes;
  • Identify the three main technical approaches/philosophies and leading companies;
  • Determination of the user-driven criteria for the comparative assessment;
  • Comparative assessment of the technical approaches (Qualitative assessment will also be taken into account as there can exist some mandatory requirements from some NGO’s or organisations).
 

WP5000 - User evaluation

    - Value added for user network
